My 4-year-old described something cool as "90s" a couple days ago.
As someone who lived through the 90s, I both completely understand /do not understand its revival. It's sort of weird to be totally enamored of an aesthetic and then see it become passe and then remember all the things you loved about it the second time around, but with a simultaneous embarassment because you were there too when it went out of style. Dissonance, it's dissonance: I remember how I loved this stuff and I remember when it felt stale as well.
When oughties nostalgia hits I'm going to effing lose it. That may very well be around the time she's earnestly engaging with fads. At least I'll know how to side sweep her bangs perfectly.
But anyway, here's a song made now that exquisitely channels some of the best things about 90s music imho.
