So there is going to be a map in the front of my next book, The Merciless King of Moore High (out April 2024!)
Do you die? I'm dead.
In celebration, I wanted to share another song from the playlist, and the character this song helped inspire: BRICK
Brick is an extremely talented baseball player at Moore High getting a full ride scholarship, and then all the adults turn into monsters one sunny mid-morning. While helping his best friend Max take the first monster down, Brick gets half his face torn off.
There are no hospitals now and certainly no plastic surgeons. It takes a long time for Brick to heal, and in a lot of ways he'll never be the same. But everyone at school loves and trusts him. Brick becomes Captain of the King's Guard, because his best friend Max is the King when he wakes up, and also because the guys who are guards would listen to him over anyone else.
Brick is in charge of guarding the exile from crosstwon rival Jefferson High who shows up at Moore one day. She learns he has the same taste in music as she does. They are both obsessed with one independent band whose songs Brick all burned to CDs Before, because his truck was too old to use an aux cable.
These CDs are then sort of the last record they have of this band that no one knows but them.
The band is inspired by The Microphones. Here is a great song by the Microphones/ Phil Elverum, who now performs as Mount Eerie:
